To: Our Valued Clients, Donors, Volunteers, and Community Members,
The Board of Directors of Baraboo River Equine-Assisted Therapies Inc. (BREATHE) has made the difficult decision to cease all program operations due to ongoing economic challenges. While the organization is not formally dissolving at this moment, effective upon relocation of equines and sale of the property, all programming and day-to-day operations will be suspended indefinitely.
This decision was not made lightly, and every alternative was explored before reaching this interim step. Like many nonprofits, we have faced many financial challenges over the past year, including rising operational costs, significant reductions in grant funding and donation revenues. Despite the tireless efforts of our board, staff, and volunteers to secure alternative revenue streams and restructure our budget, we can no longer financially sustain our programming.
To act responsibly and fulfill our fiduciary duties, we must pause operations immediately to prevent further financial distress. During this period, the Board of Directors will manage outstanding administrative obligations, pay down existing liabilities, and evaluate whether long-term restructuring or eventual formal dissolution is the most responsible path forward.
Our primary concern remains the community we serve. If you are a current program participant or beneficiary, we are working to connect you with alternative resources. Please contact Bluff and Ridge Equine-Assisted Therapies in Tomah, Wisconsin, or Three Gaits in Stoughton, Wisconsin for information about their PATH-affiliated programs.
We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together since 2016. Your belief in our mission has changed lives, and we are profoundly grateful for the trust, funding, and volunteer hours you have invested in us.
